Just testing! Of course, Bill Withers greatest hit was "Lovely Day", and what a lovely day all of us had.
Many thanks to Rui and his team for allowing us to squeeze 12 tee times into 9 slots. It was really appreciated by the organisers that the men and lady members completed their round within four hours, resulting in no delays for ourselves - or the fee paying public.
20 men and 27 ladies enjoyed playing a great morning of golf at Silves - and most of us enjoyed an even greater afternoon of socialising at the clubhouse! Congratulations must go to Ginny for her fantastic hole in 1 achievement on the 12th, so special thanks to her for the drinks to all 40 or so at the Clubhouse.
As far as the mens matchplay games, results were as follows -
Steve & Jimmy bt Malcolm & Andy 3 & 2
Chris & Charles bt Stuart W & Dave 1UP
Mel & Warren bt Richard & Pete 6 & 5
Peter & Larry bt Stuart D & Ken 1UP
Geoff & Don bt Stu & Ian 4 & 3
The first match was a great game with a very high standard of golf. Andy drove the ball miles and Malcolm used his shots well. They went one up at the first only for Steve to birdie 3 to go level. After that Steve and Jimmy played really good golf and went on to win on the 16th. Stuart & Dave and Stuart & Ken were both 3 up in their matches at one point - but managed to lose their matchs by the 18th! Ken and me reckon the problem must be playing with a "Stuart" - but I (Dave Tweed), admits that "my" Stuart was the strongest of our pair today!
Apparently Warren & Mel won or halved ALL 18 holes when playing against Richard and Pete (they continued playing after the match had finished), so the message is to please be kind to potential new member Pete next time - as he will no doubt get his own back some time in the fututre!
The abridged version of the latest league table is below, but special mention must go to Don, who had his first win this quarter. Other notables are Captain Geoff with 4 wins out of 4 and the unbeaten Steve Edwards, who is now definitely in the running for the 4th quarter "trophy" (e.g wants to buy us all a Christmas drink with is winnings!!). Also worth mentioning is that Peter Chapman and Jimmy Cruz have played 2 and won 2, so with still 5 games to go - everything is wide open.
Up to date leaders as follows (full league table will be sent to MMM players over the weekend) -
Chris Nickels 10
Dave Tweed 9
Geoff Cox 8
Steve Edwards 8
Ian Chapman 5
Larry Pratt 5
Stuart Deans, Ken Shelton, Mats Bostrom, Charles Bradshaw, Jimmy Cruz, Peter Chapman - all have 4 points
