Monday 19th January saw the latest round of the Fermon Trophy, this time the SDM home game at Silves. Competitors were faced with tough condition with a stiff, cold wind blowing throughout the round but despite that there was some good golf played. It was probably the closest game in Fermon Trophy history with only 1 (one) point separating all four team. Winners on the day were Vila Sol with 176 points, the other three teams (Carvoeiro,SDM and Alto) were tied in second place with 175. Alto helped by a best of the day performance of 42 by one of their pairs.

SdM’s Captain’s Drive In, held on 6th January, turned out to be a fantastic day following fears of it being rained off, however in true Algarvian style, the weather changed for the better. The sun shone however wind and cold made it a challenging competition. After a few last minute call offs due to a terrible flu bug, 88 tee’d off to a shotgun start. Prior to this, there was the customary putting out on the 18th by Warren Tennant, 2017 Captain, using a left hand putter followed by a respectable 181 metre drive on the 1st, using a wooden head driver, by this year’s Captain, Euan Pyper.
80 members, including guests, sat down to a very tasty hot buffet, followed by a presentation by Euan on the 2018 golfing and social calendar as well as details of his chosen charity, Lar de Criancas Bom Samaritano, a children’s care home based in Alvor.
The pairs betterball competition was very close with 4 pairs scoring 42 points and the winning pair winning on count back. Congratulations to Phil and Jennie Kelly.
Pinta Clubhouse was the venue for this year's Christmas Party. Over 60 members attended and were well entertained with some fine Christmas Fayre and music.
After the dinner and before the dancing Captain Gary Edwards thanked all those who had helped make his year as Captain such a successful one. He introduced Ray Groves, his successor, and Ray presented Gary with a fabulous photo album to remind him of his time as Captain.
After two events SDM Ladies are in the lead for the VACS Trophy. We were 7 points behind after the first meeting at Alto but after our visit to Vila Sol last week with our top 5 players scoring 30+ points we now have a 4 point lead going into the 3rd round which is on home ground in January. Congratulations to two SDM members who had 34pts, Lydia Harriman who was 1st and Lynn Cook who came 3rd.

SdM are so fortunate to have so many gorgeous Lady Members - and they are always keen to line up for a photo!
Thursday 13th November 2014 saw the inauguration of a new trophy at SdM.
Played by our past Captains it’s a trophy we hope will become something they will look forward to entering and hopefully winning! Obviously as the years pass it will become slightly more populated, this first year only having 5 participants plus guest, vice captain Ray Groves, who was representing the Captain who is away.
Our initial winner was George Cook who’s score will remain a secret to protect all other contestants from severe embarrassment!
