To All Members
I would like to announce that next year I am proposing a three day Charity Bike Ride from Sines to Silves Golf Club. I realise most of you think I am deranged in trying to propose this to such an elderly membership!!!! However, so far there are a few members already who are ready to take on the challenge. The Proposed Agenda is as follows:-
-
Date 2/3/4 May2017
- Day One - Sines to Aljezur (Approx 80k) Night Stay in Hotel/B&B
- Day Two - Aljezur to Praia da Luz via Sagres (Approx 60k) Night Stay in Hotel/B&B
- Day Three – Praia da Luz to Silves Golf Club (Approx 50k)
Obviously, the objective is to raise as much money as possible for the Captains Charity which will be advised as soon as possible.

Sundays ride saw the Famous Five, Don, Gary, Warren, Ray and Steve set off on what was to be their longest ride to date. Starting in Lagoa we cycled to Silves then cross country towards the Barregem do Arade. The climb over the dam is very steep, 13% in places, this is new territory for some!
Once again we had a ride from Penina. Gary, Ray, Steve, Don and Jill were joined by a few regulars, most of whom are experienced riders. We set off on a route that was a little more challenging for us, if not them. Going into the countryside we skirted the Autodromo and climbed into the hills. You will see from the profiles below the welcome coffee break was quite long! After the pit stop a few more hills then back to Penina. Thanks go to Don for his guidence.
A very long ride by two of our team for the Charity Bike Ride today. Jill Edwards and Don Forrester are both seasoned cyclists and did a great ride as the maps, profiles and stats show below. Whilst none of the stages on our planned ride in May will be as severe as this it is what we, the inexperienced ones, should be looking to achieve. The next training ride is planned for Wednesday, Any of those who are thinking of joining us should get in touch with Warren Tennant via email.
